What it shows

The state of your position fix, at a glance.

Compass

A card that turns as you do, with the heading in degrees and as a point of the compass, from true north once your position is known.

Accuracy

The radius, in metres, of the circle your device believes it is in, with a plain word for it: excellent, good, fair or poor.

Satellites available

How many navigation satellites are above your horizon now, in all and for GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou.

Position

Latitude and longitude to five decimal places, and the altitude with its own accuracy.

Speed and course

How fast you are moving and in which direction, when you are moving.

Orbit data

The date of the satellite orbits in use, renewed from CelesTrak when you are online.

Simple, and honest about what it knows

  • One screen. Nothing to set up: open it and read it.
  • Works offline. The compass and the accuracy come from the device itself, and the app carries satellite orbits with it.
  • A count worked out, not guessed. The satellites are counted from their published orbits for your place and the time: those more than 5° above the horizon, which a receiver under a clear sky can pick up.
  • Upright or on its side. On its side, and on an iPad, the compass sits beside the figures.
  • Private. Your location stays on your device. No account, no advertising, no tracking.

iOS does not tell apps which satellites its receiver is using, so the count is of the satellites available above you, not of those in use. Buildings, hills and being indoors hide some of them. Do not rely on this app for navigation where safety depends on it.
